Carnival Cruise Line has revealed a new specialty restaurant that will debut on Carnival Venezia, a cruise ship that begins service with Carnival in the next few weeks.
Since Carnival Venezia is a cruise ship modeled after the city of Venice, it is only fitting that the ship adds a unique Italian restaurant. Il Viaggio, Italian for “The Voyage”, will debut at Carnival Venezia and promises a journey through Italy through the country’s rich cuisine.
“Showcasing the different regions of Italy known for their specific events will invite our guests to indulge in a deeper exploration of flavors – food that is truly unique, delicious and nutritious,” said Emeril Lagasse, Carnival’s chief culinary officer. “Guests will find their favorite Italian cuisine here, and they’ll also have the opportunity to try authentic foods and drinks that may just become new favorites.”
Restaurant reservations are now open for guests booked on the upcoming Carnival Venezia cruise. There will be an additional charge for dining at Il Viaggio, in line with special restaurants on other Carnival ships.
The menu will feature signature dishes, called “Favorito” entrees. Among them is the Sicilian-made Pollo Parmigiana Pizza, which is made with crispy chicken pizza crust with tomato basil sauce, mozzarella, pepperoncini flakes, parmesan and honey-chili dressing, and Lombardy-inspired Lombata Milanese, 16 oz. veal bone that is lightly crushed, thin bread, fried and served with a green salad.
The refined background of the restaurant will celebrate the theme of a trip through Italy. Through the art and architecture that reflect the different regions featured on the menu, Il Viaggio’s aesthetic creates the illusion of traveling through different parts of Italy and guests will also have the opportunity to dine al fresco on the restaurant’s lanai.
Il Viaggo also has an open kitchen, where guests can watch the chefs prepare fresh focaccia bread that the servers will distribute to each table to welcome them.
