Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Carnival Jubilee, unexpectedly floated today, July 21, 2023, at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. The float marks a milestone in the construction process, marking the completion of the 183,521 ton ship’s outer hull.
Originally scheduled to float on Saturday morning, Meyer Werft has brought it forward due to bad weather expected in Germany over the weekend. The ship’s maneuvering is now underway, moving the ship to its destination at the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The Initial Float Indicates a Special Move
Carnival Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship has completed its construction phase, hitting the water and floating for the first time since construction began in 2022.
Meyer Werft says floating outside, originally planned for Saturdayhas been issued, possibly because of the bad weather forecast for the weekend.

The ship’s captain uttered the following words: “Notice, new schedule: The opening of Carnival Jubilee will begin 12 hours earlier and this will begin tonight at approximately 8:30 PM CET. To accommodate this, we flooded our port this morning and therefore moved Carnival Jubilee to her berth.”
Law Dock, Conveyance, and Sea Trials
Carnival Jubilee she will be docked at a nearby wet dock, where interior work, including furniture and interior design, will continue. This phase is expected to take several weeks.
After internal work, Carnival Jubilee will travel on a special journey called the river Ems conveyance. The cruise, which is a custom for ships built at the Meyer Werft shipyard, includes sailing along the Ems River to reach the North Sea.

Guided by experienced pilots and supported by tugboats, Carnival Jubilee it will slowly go through this difficult process, before going to sea trials, which are scheduled for August 2023.
