Almost six in ten Brits would like to combine travel with leisure in the future – going to a music or sports gig, a survey has found.
New York has topped the list of the most popular places for Brits to combine a holiday – with a gig or event, a survey has found.
Almost six in ten Brits (58%) say they would like to go to live events abroad, either for the first time or for the second time – as it turned out that 63%, of the 2,000 adults surveyed, have already done this.
More than a third of respondents chose to go to a rock show (35%) or a pop concert (33%) while overseas, while 32% would choose to go to sports – such as football (44%), motorsport. (15%), or tennis (19%).
And other popular cities that they will visit to participate in the event are Rome (11%), Barcelona (15%), and Paris (19%).
While Las Vegas, Tokyo, and Sydney were named as some of the farthest places to travel to participate in sports or games.
Some of the main reasons for combining travel and leisure were to develop their culture (24%), and to get opportunities that you wouldn’t have in the UK (31%).
Viagogo spokesman Cris Miller, who launched the survey, said: “More than ever, people want to enhance their holiday experience.
“Going to an event to support your favorite team or discover a new talent has always been a great way to enrich a trip abroad.
“Our data shows that thousands of Brits are combining travel and events this year – going to the Rugby World Cup, Formula 1, the Tomorrowland festival, or taking in international acts like Beyoncé and Coldplay.
“With over 50 million listings, fans looking to add an event to an existing tour, or plan their favorite event, will be spoiled for choice.”
The results also found that other genres of music that vacationers would like to experience while overseas include classical music (20%), R&B and soul (18%), indie (17%), and country music (16%).
And almost half (45%) would prefer to have an event in an out-of-town city – while seaside towns (31%), popular tourist destinations (27%), and coastal areas (17%) were also identified.
When planning a trip abroad, 49% of respondents, via OnePoll, make sure to see if any of their favorite events are happening while they are there.
And 23% would extend their trip to three or four days – if it meant they could squeeze in some life events.
Cris Miller added: “New York was voted the number one dream destination for an incredible event, with Tokyo and Sydney both in the top 10.
“This is no surprise – the Big Apple is home to some of the world’s best music venues, theaters, and cultural venues that make for a great “bucket list” destination.
“Closer to home, Spain, Italy, and France were all well-represented, while Brits continue to consider rising transport and accommodation costs.
“Fans want somewhere easy and convenient to find tickets in nearly 200 countries, with listings to fit every budget.”
