The cruise liner Princess rescued 51 passengers and 16 crew members on a trip after the ship stopped due to an engine fire in Glacier Bay.
The Sapphire Princess was en route to Alaska when she received a call from the US Coast Guard to assist in the rescue of the passengers and crew of the Wilderness Discoverer. Wilderness Discoverer is a cruise ship from Adventure Smith Explorations.
Sapphire Princess sent a submarine to transfer all 51 passengers and 16 crew from the Wilderness Discoverer to the Princess cruise ship. Princess Cruises reported that there were no injuries and crew members aboard the Sapphire Princess are feeding and caring for the passengers.
Princess Cruises issued the following statement regarding the rescue of the passengers and crew of the Winderness Discoverer: “We are proud to have been able to provide support and would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sapphire Princess crew led by our Captain Todd McBain and our US Coast Guard partners for this great outcome.”
Sapphire Princess is currently on a week-long “Voyage of the Glaciers” that departed Vancouver, Canada on May 31, 2023. The cruise visited Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Glacier Bay. The only route will end in Whitier, Alaska on June 7, 2023.
