Along with the first ever list of the World’s 50 Best Hotels, which will be announced on September 19 in London, there will be a host of other awards, showcasing the very best that discerning travelers can choose from. Read on to discover these unique awards and find out how each one is determined
It will be the biggest moment in decades for the luxury travel industry when the inaugural list of the World’s 50 Best Hotels is released. No such venerable group of unknown experts has been assembled to make the opening rankings; discussions abound from Tokyo to Tenerife about who will make the list.
There is no doubt that it will be a reason to be happy for the hotels and their groups to be placed among the 50, but as with the Top 50 restaurant and bar awards program, there are other honors necessary to win.
There are seven ‘special awards’ up for grabs in addition to the rankings, along with six hotels that will be named the best in their respective continents. This list of additional products is designed to complement this list and to give consumers easy access to products and people who are working at the highest level.
The special international awards for the 50 Best Hotels will be:
Art of Hospitality Award: Voted by 580 experts in the 50 Best Academy, the Art of Hospitality Award celebrates hotel excellence and attention to detail. It is designed to reward properties and all their employees for the professional standards they follow and the way they interact with guests, from the front desk to the housekeeping and food and beverage teams. Judges are asked to consider the location of the hotel, the provision of special events and the overall enjoyment of hospitality and nature. The Art of Hospitality Award will be announced before the event, on 22nd August.
Lavazza One To Watch Award: This title is given to a star hotel that is outside the list, but which the 50 Best group believes can enter the future list – it is the only award in the event that is selected by the 50 Best group. The Lavazza One To Watch award will be announced on September 5.
Nikka Best New Hotel: This award goes to the hotel that is in the highest position on the list open for two voting years: May 2021 – May 2023.
Flor de Caña Eco Hotel: This award supports the efforts of one hotel to become sustainable. The award is independently evaluated by the Sustainable Restaurant Association, which oversees self-nominated restaurants based on a variety of criteria, including environmental and social responsibility. The hotel must submit documents and fill out a series of questions that assess the business performance in three key areas: Environment, Organization and Purchasing. Current legal status, such as a B-Corp, will be considered in the evaluation.
The Lost Explorer Best Beach Hotel: This award is simple: it will be awarded to the highest rated hotel located 20 meters from the beach.
Carlo Alberto Vermouth Best Boutique Hotel: This award will be given to the hotel at the top of the list that meets all the requirements of the boutique. 50 Best refers to a boutique hotel having fewer than 50 rooms and not being part of a chain or a large group. It should be a design-driven space, showcasing individual work and its unique destination.
SevenRooms Icon Award: This award celebrates an individual who has contributed significantly to the hospitality industry throughout his career. All 580 voters are asked to name a person who has been doing good in the hotel industry around the world. It is the only award in the Top 50 programs that is awarded to an individual and not a hotel property.
